Provides basic care for patients, whether in a long-term healthcare facility. Duties include following and administering prescribed routines with patients, monitoring their vital signs, and assisting them with day-to-day functioning and activities.

CLB 5 or Higher
Education

Responsibilities
Tasks
Supply and empty bedpans
Take patients’ blood pressure, temperature and pulse
Serve meal trays and feed patients
Weigh, lift, turn and position patients
Make beds and maintain patients’ rooms
Bathe, dress and groom patients
Transport patients in wheelchairs or stretchers
Collect specimens
Accompany patients on outside recreational activities and perform other duties related to patient care and comfort
Administer first aid in emergency situations
Provide personal care
Provide companionship
Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties
Launder clothing and household linens
Administer bedside and personal care
Feed or assist in feeding
Assist clients with bathing and other aspects of personal hygiene
